Mad Hatter Tea Cake

When my sister-in-law asked me to make a cake for her in-laws crazy hat party I new it was my chance to do a Mad Hatter cake like I had wanted to for a long while now! It is a carved (aka sculpted cake) with four layers of chocolate cake and chocolate buttercream frosting covered in homemade fondant. I was also able to try out the brush embroidery technique in royal icing for the second time ever on the yellow flowers covering the hat. I love this technique, it's simple but so pretty! I added some fun hat pins with fondant card symbols. the teacups are made of gumpaste. So, yes, "you can even eat the dishes"! They need a little something so I added fondant sugar cubes rolled in sugar. Fun!

Ruffle Wedding Cake

I just love the look of this vintage ruffle wedding cake. The edible gum paste ruffle flowers were fun to make! The reception was held out in a renovated barn and this cake was placed on a rustic old barrel. What ambiance! The cake was chocolate with chocolate buttercream and homemade fondant.
